Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said Monday that she expects more Chinese tourists to visit the Philippines to further boost the long standing relations between Chinese and Filipino people.

During a meeting with visiting Beijing Mayor Wang Qishan at the Malacanang presidential palace, Arroyo said, with the resumption of Philippine Airline's Manila-Beijing direct air flights, it would be more convenient for people to travel from China to the Philippines.

"We have many tourists now coming from China but we would like to have more tourists especially from Beijing," Arroyo told Wang. "We hope that, with your visit here, the people of your great city will be encouraged to visit us here."

Wang began a two-day visit to the Philippines on Monday in order to promote the relations between Beijing and Manila. He signed an agreement earlier with Manila Mayor Lito Atienza to establish friendly relations between the two cities. (Source:xinhua news)
